For many Black and multiracial children in foster care, kinship care, and adoption, proper hair care is about far more than appearance; it's an expression of love, identity, trust, and belonging. In this engaging presentation, Tamekia equips caregivers, child welfare professionals, and agency leaders with the knowledge and practical tools needed to confidently care for textured hair while honoring each child's culture and individuality. Drawing on more than 15 years of experience serving thousands of children and families through Styles 4 Kidz, Tamekia addresses the emotional impact of hair care, common mistakes that can unintentionally contribute to trauma, and simple, culturally responsive practices that help children feel seen, valued, and confident. 

Participants leave with practical strategies they can immediately apply to strengthen relationships, support healthy identity development, and improve outcomes for the children they serve.
